The Infinite Fountain: Following Grande Otelo is the fulfillment of a dream shared by my mother and me. We always wanted to create a performance together, and we decided to pay tribute to Grande Otelo, honoring his legacy.
Grande Otelo was an incredible artist, widely recognized, yet he faced racism throughout his entire life. He was a Black artist of short stature—just like me. I am Black and have a physical disability. No one ever expected me to become an artist. Doctors said I wouldn’t live past the age of three—let alone become a performer, right? And because of this connection, we felt compelled to dedicate this work to Grande Otelo.
My mother has been my partner for so many years. Grande Otelo had Carmen Miranda, and I have Cida Barbosa.
Bio:
It all started with the great desire to fulfill a dream of presenting a show with my mother. We thought about what it would be like and came up with the idea of making a reference to Grande Otelo. We invited our friend Alex Sorlino to help us direct the play.
