This process is part of the persistence of a director deeply passionate about Clarice Lispector, determined to explore theatrical techniques through her work and biography.

Joyful, but Tired is an investigation into the interview Clarice Lispector gave for the Panorama show on TV Cultura. During rehearsals, we often engage in active meditation practices while listening to the audio of this interview, along with dramatic readings and voice games using its transcription.

We have been watching the interview on mute, observing Clarice’s expressions and those of the journalist, playing with games and fragments of the interview’s text. Our idea is to transform this interview into a dramaturgy that takes shape collaboratively—where the director immerses the performers in Clarice’s universe, and the performers, in turn, bring images and scenic fragments inspired by what resonates with them.

The staging process and this work-in-progress showcase will also explore how the set up and set down of a play can be part of the audience’s engagement with the process.

We want to begin with an empty space. As we start to set the place up to perform the work-in-progress, we will also invite the audience to participate in some way. The set down will be accompanied by an frank, honest conversation—seeking to bring the audience closer to aspects that may still feel unclear after experiencing the scenes from the process.

Bio:

The Claricena Group was founded in 2013 based on university research inspired by Clarice Lispector. Over time, it established itself as a theater group. Among its main works are three plays based on the author. The group has also developed audiovisual projects, such as the web series Surviving Is Salvation Because It Seems That Living Does Not Exist (2020) and other transmedia experiences. Currently, it maintains research centers in São Paulo, exploring the aesthetics of epiphany and expanding remote access to its work.
