Bio:

Renata Carvalho – actress, director, playwright, and transpologist. Social Sciences undergraduate. Founder of Monart (National Movement of Trans Artists) and the "Trans Representativity Manifesto", which advocates for the inclusion of trans/travesti bodies in artistic creation spaces and calls for a halt to Trans Fake—the practice of cisgender artists portraying trans/travesti characters.

As a transpologist (a trans anthropologist), she has been studying trans/travesti bodies since 2007, when she became a volunteer prevention agent for STIs, HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, and hepatitis at the Santos Municipal Health Department. She worked specifically with trans women and travestis in prostitution, the same year she recognized herself as a travesti.

Her transpology highlights the social, media, criminal, hypersexualized, pathological, religious, and moral constructions that surround trans/travesti bodies, emphasizing how art—and consequently, artists—have played and continue to play a role in shaping these common perceptions.

She positions her travesti body as both subject and object of research, raising awareness about and challenging the absence of these bodies in artistic spaces.

Her works include:

(2020) Corpo (autobiography); (2019) Manifesto Transpofágico; (2018) Domínio Público; (2016) The Gospel According to Jesus, Queen of Heaven; (2016) ZONA!; (2013) Projeto Bispo; (2012) Dentro de mim mora outra; (2009) Nossa vida como ela é.

She actively fights for the inclusion and normalization of trans/travesti bodies in the arts, seeking their humanization, professionalization, and permanence in artistic creation spaces.
