Our project, Black Machine, centers on the clash between the ideas of the Martinican psychoanalyst Frantz Fanon and the character of Hamlet. This confrontation will lead not only to the fall of the classic character but also to a new proposal for constructing an alternative possibility of Hamlet.
This project is based on the figure created by Heiner Müller in Hamletmachine, and one of the key elements we are developing is precisely this: considering that Shakespeare's character and his most emblematic phrase, "To be or not to be, that is the question," mark a turning point in modern thought, we are exploring how this concept applies to racialized people in our contemporary world.
Racialized people exist in the zone of non-being, while the zone of being—the space of subjectivity and recognition—is denied to them. This tension between the two zones is at the core of our investigation. Through a decolonial approach and a multiplicity of artistic languages, we aim to delve into this conflict, critically engaging with the text and creating an anti-play. That is essentially the foundation of our project.
