Brinquedo is a creation process within a research platform I have called Represas do Tempo (Dams of Time), which aims to be a collection of works where I delve into studying and creating from the relationships of time, enchantment, and the composition of narratives about healing and care, all rooted in our Afro-Pindorama existences. Along this journey, there are other works like Lança, Rezos Para Rasgar o Mundo (Prayers to Tear the World Apart), among other practices.

In Brinquedo, I focus my research on understanding the relationship of the body that plays, the playful body, and how this playful being appears in multiple Afro-Brazilian and Indigenous dances, either as an enchanted being, or a presentified being, or in action, moving into states of incorporation. It’s through this path that we continue to construct our dances, also diving into the work of Jaider Esbell, Where Dreams Come From, thinking about the multiplicity of colors that could evoke a fabulous or enchanted universe, but one that also comes from a relationship with deep darkness—the same darkness that lies in time, beneath the earth, where things decompose, the same darkness that exists beyond us in the universe. Anyway, that’s the scene, dance, research, and experience we’re creating.
