Hi, everyone! I’m Elisa Volpatto, and I’m here to talk about Certified Copy, a self-fictional and comedic work based on a play by playwright Guto Portugal. The director is Tainah Dadda, with Paulo Salvetti as assistant director.
In this play, we follow the journey of an up-and-coming actress who decides to write her first theater piece. In her obsessive quest for an original and unique idea, she struggles to define what is truly new and what is merely a recycling of everything that has already been created.
The play explores the boundaries between originality, novelty, truth, and deception in an era of deepfake technology, artificial intelligence, and ChatGPT—ultimately questioning the limits of theater itself.
This is a production by Coletivo Teatro de Estilhaços.
Bio:
Teatro de Estilhaços is formed by artists Elisa Volpatto, Livia Vilela, Paulo Salvetti, and Rita Grillo, who have been collaborating creatively since 2016. However, it was in 2022 that they officially established the collective with the premiere of Stalking – A Documentary Horror Tale.
The group is dedicated to expanding its theatrical language and perspectives by collaborating with other artists. This pursuit is evident in Cópia Exemplar, where Elisa Volpatto and Paulo Salvetti join forces with director Tainah Dadda and playwright Guto Portugal to create an autofictional performance that blurs the boundaries between reality and fiction. The play delves into thought-provoking themes such as originality in art, copyright, and artificial intelligence.
