Good afternoon. Good evening. Good morning, friends of Farofa! We are Pepo & Tom! Thank you so much for having us.

The work we are going to present is called Confidance. It is a research project we began in No Sin Vera, a space in the city of Buenos Aires in 2024.

In this piece, we attempt to induce hypnotic states through the manipulation of bodies, exploring the limits of care.

We are also interested in inducing hallucinations that put to the test a choreography built on the edge of an abyss—at the margins of speed and violence, questioning whether a gesture is to blame. A gesture is always a proposition.

We insist on constructing a language that goes beyond spoken agreements—a void where spectators can create their own unique interpretation of the language being built live. Through noise as a disturbance of the present space, we allow both ourselves and the audience to engage in singular acts of decoding what is happening.

And so we ask ourselves: How do we bring this moment, the feelings we are experiencing right now? We pay attention, close attention.

Bio:

Pepo & Tom are a performative artist duo based in Buenos Aires, Argentina, working together since 2017. Their creations are conceived as constantly evolving spaces, primarily expressed through performances, videos, and live shows. Their work explores the intimate aspects of relational dynamics, questioning the agreements and coercions that shape them. Their goal is to expose how common sense is constructed and develop mechanisms to subvert it seriously—through humor, satire, and the boundaries of violence.

Their aesthetic references come from pop culture, cinema, and conceptual art, with a particular focus on artistic expressions that emerged as novelties, whether through recent innovation or obsolescence: proto-TV, the early days of YouTube culture, blogs, outdated technologies, and the first raves, among others.

In 2023, they were residents in the annual co-production program at Tecnópolis, Latin America’s largest art, science, and technology exhibition, where they developed their site-specific work iUNIVERSAL EMOUSHHHON (2023).

In 2024, they participated in two residency programs at Nos en Vera in Buenos Aires, working on their ongoing projects nou taim coreografis and confidance, and presented a proto-opera titled Romans at the Matienzo Cultural Center.

Previously, they received the National Arts Fund’s Creation Grant (2021) for their work Paraíso Fiscal. Their piece Golden Hour (2021) was the main act in the performance program at ArteBa Fair. They have collaborated with artists such as Diego Bianchi for the Liverpool Biennial and the Buenos Aires Performance Biennial, as well as co-creating with Luis Garay, with works presented at the Museum of Modern Art of Buenos Aires and the New Opera Festival of Buenos Aires.
