Ebó de Xùxú is a big alguidar filled with love, heartbreak, our dysphorias, and our pains—all being offered at a great crossroads. The crossroads are the starting point of Ebó de Xùxú, where three travestis on stage invoke the presence of our ancestors, especially Maria Navalha—a transcestral, a catimbozeira who once lived in the streets of Recife Antigo, later became enchanted, and today is a mestre juremeira. She manifests through one of these travestis, right there, at that crossroads. Then, Maria Navalha, together with the other travestis, journeys to the crossroads of the 1980s, leading the audience to reclaim the memories and the navalhas (razor blades) used by our transcestrals—as tools of both self-defense and self-mutilation. 

This is the guiding line of the performance—a work-in-progress dramaturgical research that serves as a trigger for the travestis’ performances. Each travesti performs their own ebó, the ebó they wish to offer at that moment—pouring everything inside an alguidar, filled with navalhas, and leaving it at a crossroads. 

Bio:

The Ebó de Xùxú Collective was founded in May 2023 by Myra Gomes, a multiartist and researcher focused on transcestrality. The collective explores how love, pain, dysphoria, and heartbreak cross generations, particularly through the experiences of trans and travesti bodies—which are seen as living, moving installations.

In 2023, the collective presented the scenic installation Ebó de Xùxú - Destrava Encruzylhadaz and the short film Ebó de Xùxú - O Filme, which won the Unicórnio de Ouro - Troféu Afronte at the 5th Transforma Festival of Diversity Cinema in Santa Catarina.

In 2024, they were invited by SENAC Lapa Scipião to participate in the 17th Theater Showcase with the photographic installation and performance Ebó de Xùxú, in collaboration with photography students from the unit. The collective also presented the performance Ebó de Xùxú - Despachando meu Xùxú na Encruzilhada at SESC Pompeia.

Currently, the collective is deepening its research into transcestrality through partnerships with Afro-Brazilian and Afro-Indigenous religions, specifically Candomblé and Jurema Preta. Their first theater-performance work, Entre Navalhas e a Encruzilhada, is still in progress.
