NOISYSEA is a solo performance that began taking shape during the pandemic and gained momentum in 2022 when its writing officially started, led by director Beatriz Barros and creator Hayla Cavalcanti. The piece tells the story of Jandira, a woman who discovers an illness and finds herself trapped in a complex labyrinth of remembering and forgetting, life and death, lapses, time, and space. The work is inspired by the story of Hayla’s grandmother, who had Alzheimer’s, and the experiences Hayla witnessed during that period of her grandmother’s life.
Initially conceived as a dance solo, NOISYSEA evolved through an extensive process of research, narrative exploration, conversations, interviews, and literary, visual, and audiovisual references. This journey led to the incorporation of text, introducing fictional and even fantastical elements that raise questions about beginnings, middles, and new beginnings—about the cyclical nature of life.
Marulho is the result of a two-and-a-half-year process, one that has transformed many times along the way.
