The Hamlet, My Dad project was born from my desire to share the stage with my father, who is a percussionist, timpanist, and skateboarder, through an investigation of time — whether as rhythmic marking or as a process of learning and aging. Although the father-daughter relationship was always present, what truly interested us in the performance was the attempt to reverse our roles — to step into each other’s shoes.
Throughout the process, we immersed ourselves in the study of theater and music — my father in his attempt to become an actor, and I in my attempt to become a percussionist. In this way, the piece was woven through this performative exchange, where father, daughter, musician, actress, skateboarder, and playwright continuously repositioned themselves with each encounter, confronting the challenges of time, memory, life, death, and the roles we play both on and off the stage.
The dramaturgy is primarily based on two specific works: Hamlet by William Shakespeare and The Rite of Spring by Stravinsky. This project was developed with the support of the ProAC performance grant and Casa do Povo.
