Hello everyone, how are you? I’m Fábio Osório Monteiro, and I'm here to talk about Knot. Knot is a play written by the Bahian playwright Gildon Oliveira, who is a friend and longtime work partner. Gildon and I have been discussing and thinking about this production for at least two and a half years. Throughout this process, we have also been joined by Heloísa Jorge, a wonderful actress with whom I will share the stage, Beatriz Barros, who will direct the play, and Knot also features the collaboration of artist Cristina Moura.
This play tells the story of a couple, Célia and Sebastião, a Black couple who have just gone through a recent trauma—the brutal loss of their only child, a 13-year-old teenager. But the play is not necessarily about this boy’s death. Instead, it is about how this couple seeks and finds ways to keep standing, and surviving such immense pain—pain that is overwhelming but certainly not greater than the love they share and their desire to keep living.
At this stage of the process, we are working on the scenes, thinking, developing, and experimenting. It is this experiment that we will share at Faroffa, and we invite all of you to join us and reflect together on this work.
