SYNOPSIS
With dramaturgy and direction by Alexandre Dal Farra, the latest production by Tablado_SP emerges from the author's research on the impact of gold prospecting and mining in the construction of modernity, combined with reflections on Boca de Ouro by Nelson Rodrigues.
Part of the research involved expeditions carried out alongside filmmaker Joaquim Castro to the Serra Pelada region, resulting in the production of visual records and the collection of testimonies from people who experienced the peak of gold prospecting in the area and still live there today.
This resonates in a dramaturgy structured in two parts: "The first is an attempt to imagine people living in that place. To think about what that region was like at the time—from the clashes between the Araguaia guerrillas and Major Curió to the creation of the gold mine—what it meant to be there in the past, and what I can grasp from it all today," says Dal Farra.
In the second part, during the Christmas season, a team of documentarians waits in a hotel room for contact from gold prospectors. Receiving no response, they experience moments of distress, paranoia, and fear, as the filmmakers are aware of the miners’ connections to organized crime.
Added to this is a dialogue with the play Boca de Ouro. For instance, in the opening scene of Nelson Rodrigues' play, a gambling boss asks a dentist to remove all his teeth and replace them with a full set of gold teeth. This dual act of violence—against one's own body and intertwined with the predatory extraction of gold—echoes the neo-extractivist logic that underpins not only Brazilian society but the global order itself.
