The idea for Red emerged just before the pandemic, during one of our meetings about what we wanted to work on at that moment. The topic of pedophilia and violence on social media resonated with what we were all thinking about.
So we started researching some texts and came across Valsa Número Seis [Waltz Number Six] by Nelson Rodrigues, which influenced our creative process for quite some time. Later, we decided to let go of Nelson’s text and create our own dramaturgy.
This process continued throughout the pandemic, with virtual meetings that we maintained during that time. And after the pandemic, once we were able to meet in person again, we intensified our rehearsals and began physically working in the rehearsal room on everything that had been developing during the pandemic.
I, Priscila Modanesi, then wrote the text for Vermelho, based on the fairy tale Little Red Riding Hood. The backdrop is Little Red Riding Hood transposed into the universe of a child who comes into contact with someone she believes to be a boy her age through a social media platform. So, this is the main background of the play Vermelho.
